Next stop was Nesters to pick up some groceries. Here is picture of a little pop-up market set up just outside the parking lot.

Saturday Farmer's Market
While the farmers' market is open year round now, it is only on the May long weekend that all of the vendors show up. This larger market wraps up on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving weekend attracts many visitors because of the Artists Studio Tour. In addition to local artists' ware, there is produce grown by Watercliff Permaculture Farm. It always has a long line-up, and some things sell out early on. The other most popular vendor is Slowrise Bakery (often a line-up of 20 people or more) which makes delicious sourdough bread, scones, bialies, and other yummy breads and baked goods.
Saturday morning visit to GIRO
Saturday mornings on Gabriola typically start with a visit to GIRO (Gabriola Island Recycling Organization), a popular local spot where people often go every week, sometimes even lining up before the doors open to be sure to find a great treasure or at least a good deal. GIRO is only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. First I dropped off my glass bottles for recycling, then paid $20 for them to take my bbq, which was damaged when a tree fell on it. Around the corner to dropoffs, I was able donate some kitchen things, a bag of clothing, and set of stacking tables. The place was hopping - I found a couple of things I was looking for and had to stand in line to pay. Clearly business is booming as they recently had to add a second cashier.
